DSLR, Short Film - 2019/12/25 - 4 minutes 10 sec - director, writer, editor, narrator, protagonist, and cinematographer - The film A sense of Agency, is a true story about a Taiwanese high-school student as he struggles against unrealistic stress and an uphill battle against his high school life. Using authentic footage from his daily life, A sense of Agency is presented in a narrative manner highlighting the repeating cycle of student life when he talks about how he feels about school and how he never gave up. Where he finds his passion and makes every bit of his school life count. Starting with two summer programs in the U.S. and discover a part of him that he never discovered before. Leading to an unexpected ending scene. The reason why I chose this topic is that as a Taiwanese high school student, I wanted to film something that is relatable to my student life and also my personal life. In my culture and school, self-repeated student life and rote-learning-based education systems have often led to an overworking and overwhelming burden for students. I believe this film can not only tell a story of my own life but a story that people can also resonate with.

Inspired by a blindness simulation camp experience, co-director Brian invites audiences to relive this short dark moment that will leave them with long-lasting repercussions. Being blind surely is tough, but not too many people understand the emotional dent and weight it causes to the person. To take it one step further, the short film helps relate to the phenomenon where people lose their sense of direction in overloaded information.
